Pancakes (with all the best pancake toppings) are the best for group breakfasts or brunch, especially when you turn them into a pancake bar! The reason I prefer to serve them with a big spread of delicious toppings is so guests can make them more or less sweet–not everyone is ready to stuff themselves with sugar first thing in the morning (couldn’t be me!).

If you’re nervous about keeping your hot cakes warm, don’t worry! You could serve this board a couple ways: you could either add the pancakes to the platter at the last minute and eat immediately or make the board all about the toppings and serve the pancakes separately so you can keep them warm in the oven and/or make them to order.

How To Make a Pancake Platter

  • Add the maple syrup, yogurt, and granola to individual bowls (i like to use a vessel with a spout for the syrup, but it’s not necessary!). Garnish the yogurt with lemon zest, if using. Space the bowls out on the board to anchor it.
  • Add apple hearts to the center of the board, then surround with blueberries. Add the strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cookies to the board in separate sections, making sure to leave spaces on the edge for the warm pancakes.
  • Fill in any empty spaces (aside from the pancake spots!) with chocolates and pomegranate seeds, being sure to keep the chocolate away from where the pancakes will go to avoid melting. Garnish with mint.
  • Add the hot pancakes to the board and top with butter if using. Serve immediately!

How to Keep Pancakes Warm

The tricky part of this board is serving the pancakes warm! The easiest way to do it is to make the pancakes to order, but then you’ll be stuck in the kitchen whipping up flapjacks the whole time! My favorite way to ensure warm hot cakes for a large group is to dedicate the board to the toppings and serve the pancakes separately so I can keep them warm without affecting the toppings. To do that, try one of the following:

  • Place the pancakes in a basket or platter and cover with foil and/or a clean kitchen towel to keep the heat in.
  • Set the oven to warm (about 225°F). As you finish pancakes, place them on a wire rack or oven-proof platter. Try not to stack the pancakes or they’ll get soggy! However, if they start to get too dry, cover them with foil (and try to move fast!).
