In my humble opinion, the best part of summer is the backyard barbecues. From classic burgers and dogs (psst… check out my Hot Dog Board) to flavor-packed kebabs, barbecues are all about the sides, and boy are there delicious sides and snacks on this board. This board is perfect for summer holidays like Memorial Day and 4th of July and it can be totally tailored to your and your guests’ tastes–use your favorite bbq sauce, summer fruits, and flavor combos. The best thing about this board? Everything can be bought from the store if you don’t feel like making it at home.

Put It All Together

  • Start by adding the beans, pickles, onions, potato salad, and coleslaw to separate small bowls. Place them in different corners of the board to anchor it.
  • Next, add the chicken to the center of the board.
  • Add the larger items, like corn, watermelon, and buns to the edge of the board.
  • Fill in any holes with strawberries and sweet potatoes. Enjoy!

How to Make Pickled Onions

Unless you are a pickling fanatic or onion lover, it’s doubtful you have a jar of pickled onions in your fridge. If that’s the case, you can “quick pickle” some in a fraction of the time! All you need is hot water, vinegar, sugar, salt, and onion slices.

Here’s a recipe to try!

Summer Fruits

If you’re not a watermelon fan, check out these other options:

  • Cherries
  • Peaches
  • Cantaloupe
  • Berries
  • Plums
  • Nectarines
  • Apricots
  • Grapes
