super bowl wings board

Quite possibly one of the best Super Bowl snacks is classic hot wings! Similar to the Meatball Game Day Board, the meat is the star of the show here. Grab takeout wings and build your platter with all the fixins’. And no, it’s not cheating! I call it being smart. As always, wings are messy, but oh so worth it.

Takeout For the Win

I’m not much for cooking, especially while trying to balance getting a good spot on the couch and judging all the Super Bowl commercials. So, instead of slaving away making wings from scratch, I opt for takeout wings from a local spot and arrange them on a platter for optimum presentation. More thoughts on ditching the Styrofoam containers and elevating takeout in my Mediterranean Mezze Board post.

I suggest ordering 3 types of wings with wings sauce of varying spiciness. Here’s what I chose:

  • Spicy BBQ Chicken Wings
  • Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings
  • Hot Buffalo Chicken Wings

What to serve with wings

Usually, an order of to-go wings will include the dips and a few pieces of dry carrots and celery. If your takeout veggies aren’t up to snuff, it’s super easy to add your own. In addition to the traditional suspects, adding radish makes for great crunch and good color. Feel free to prep your veggies the night before and spitz with some water right before serving.

Beyond that, I like to add in fitting pantry items I generally have on hand like olives, pickles and hot chili peppers for a kick.

Produce

  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Radishes

Accoutrements

  • Pickle Slices
  • Black Olives
  • Hot Chili Peppers

Dip those wings!

Again, you might get some great dips with your takeout order. If so, just put them together into a ramekin or small bowl. However, feel free to add your favorite ranch or blue cheese. On this particular board, I included a dairy-free option (cilantro dip from Good Foods) to ensure everyone had a dip they could eat. So, depending on your guests’ needs, choose accordingly.

Either way, you can’t have a wings board without plenty of dip. Options include:

  • Classic Ranch
  • Tangy Blue Cheese
  • Cilantro Dressing
  • Dairy Free option (Good Foods & Primal Foods Kitchen have dairy free options)

Bring Order to the Chaos

Wings can be messy, so I like to keep things organized on the platter. Here’s how I arrange all the items:

  • First, set down your dip bowls towards the middle of the spread
  • Next, arrange the 3 types of wings in 3 sections around the platter
  • Between each set of wings, add your produce (i.e. carrots, celery, etc)
  • Finally, fill in the gaps with your olives, pickles and peppers
  • If you’re feeling fancy, add some green onions as garnish
