When it comes to sliders, ham and Swiss is a go-to combo for a reason. And when you add King’s Hawaiian slider buns? You really can’t get much better! In this recipe, I’ve whipped up a buttery slider sauce to brush on top of the buns–it melds deliciously with the salty ham and creamy Swiss cheese.
These sweet, savory, and totally crave-able sliders are the perfect party app, but you can also whip them up for a quick lunch! For more appetizer ideas, try my Soft Pretzel Board, Cheesy Pull Apart Bread, Game Day Wings Board, Buffalo Chicken Dip, and Burrata & Prosciutto Crostini.
Ham & Swiss Sliders with Slider Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 (12-roll) package King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- 6 slices ham, halved
- 6 slices Swiss cheese, halved
- 6 slices smoked turkey, halved
- 6 slices provolone, halved
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning
- 1½ tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon flaky salt (I like Maldon)
Note: Bagel seasoning usually doesn’t always contain salt, so check yours before using! If it does, you can omit the flaky salt.
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Remove rolls from package without breaking them apart into individual rolls. Slice crosswise to create a top and bottom layer. Arrange the bottom layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Top with ham in an even layer, then add even layers of Swiss, turkey, and provolone. Place the top layer of rolls over the ham and swiss.
- Microwave the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl until melted. Once butter has melted, stir in honey, seasoning, and mustard. Brush over tops of rolls.
- Bake sandwiches until tops are golden brown and cheese is melty, about 15 minutes.
How To Make Ham & Cheese Sliders

- Add turkey (6 slices, cut in half)
- Add provolone (6 slices, cut in half)
- Cover with top of King’s Hawaiian rolls. Microwave the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl until melted. Once butter has melted, stir in honey, seasoning, and mustard. Drizzle or brush over tops of rolls then bake sandwiches until tops are golden brown and cheese is melty, about 15 minutes.
What Makes These Sliders Different?
Saying “It’s all in the slider sauce” is a little misleading because all of the ingredients put in serious work, but the sauce is a big part of what makes these sliders so delicious! After all, there’s a reason why ham and Swiss cheese are paired so often, but my philosophy for these sliders, like with most things, is: butter makes everything better!
My slider sauce combines butter with Dijon mustard (a classic ham condiment!), honey, and everything bagel seasoning. It adds the perfect amount of richness, sweetness, and depth of flavor—who doesn’t love a little crunch?
In a lot of recipes, I use honey instead of sugar because I love using raw, local honey! It’s important to support local bees because bee farming is good for the environment, but raw honey itself also has a lot of health benefits: it’s a natural antiseptic, reduces inflammation, and is high in polyphenols and flavonoids (which act as antioxidants), to name a few!
Alternative Slider Ingredients
If you are vegan or avoid dairy, try:
Note: for those of you who are lactose intolerant, Swiss and provolone are both cheeses with lower lactose levels! You might be able to enjoy them depending on how sensitive you are.
If you have a gluten intolerance, try one of these store-bought gluten-free options:
- Canyon Bakehouse Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- Udi’s Classic Hamburger Buns (these aren’t slider-sized, but you can cut them into smaller pieces after cooking!)
- Homemade gluten-free copycat Hawaiian rolls
King’s Hawaiian Slider Flavor Combos
If you ask me, Hawaiian sweet rolls are the perfect slider buns. Aside from ham and cheese, here are some of my favorite kinds of sliders to slap between these sweet, soft, and versatile rolls:
- Smoked turkey & cheddar
- Pineapple & SPAM (or ham!)
- Caramelized onions, roast beef, & provolone
- Sloppy Joe’s
- BBQ pulled pork or chicken
- Or try something a little fancy with prosciutto, brie, pear & arugula
If you want to try a totally different direction and make a garlic butter slider sauce, try a meatball or chicken parm slider!
How To Store Hawaiian Roll Sliders
These sliders tend to go fast, so I’ll be shocked if you have any leftovers! If you do, you can store them in an airtight container or zip-top bag in the fridge for up to 2 days. To reheat them, bake (or air fry!) them at 350 degrees until warmed and melted to your liking. Be careful not to overbake them or the ham and/or rolls may dry out.
I can’t guarantee that the textures will be perfectly preserved, but I can guarantee that they will taste just as good! Plus, if you’re feeling ambitious, you can make a small batch of the slider sauce (see recipe above) and re-apply before warming for added flavor.
Ham & Cheese Slider Pairings
When it comes to these sliders, I usually reach for flavor combos that elicit that classic bar food feeling…
Beverages
- Beer (lagers and pale ales would be great here!)
- Soda
- Margaritas
- Dry wine (like Riesling, Chenin Blanc or Merlot)
Sides
- Potato chips
- Coleslaw
- Potato salad
- French fries (try my French Fry Board!)
- Pasta salad
