Chocolate dip is at the top of the dessert dip pyramid–if you ask me. This avocado chocolate dip, which is like an avocado chocolate mousse or pudding, is the best of both worlds: it’s creamy, delicious, and decadent, AND it’s nutritious! Plus, it’s easy to make and a total crowd-pleaser.
You can also use it as a sweet spread for toast or serve it as a topping for oatmeal.
Why Put Avocado in Chocolate Dip?
You might be wondering why I would put avocado in a chocolate dessert dip, and the answer is: so many reasons! And yes, it still tastes like delicious chocolate.
Nutritional benefits: Avocados are a great source of monounsaturated fats, which can help lower blood pressure, and potassium, which is essential for heart health. They are also rich in fiber, which aids in digestion, and vitamin E, which is thought to improve eye health.
Texture: The silky, melt-in-your-mouth texture of avocados makes this dip ultra creamy!
Dairy Alternative: An avocado is a great, creamy substitute for dairy. While this dip also has mascarpone in it, you could easily omit it the 8 ounces of mascarpone and just add another avocado to make this a dairy-free dip. Note that one large avocado is approximately 8 ounces.
How To Choose an Avocado
The age old question! I mainly go by feel: if you gently squeeze it, it should feel soft but not mushy. Too firm and it’s underripe, too squishy and it’s overripe! You can also check for color and texture: the color should be a purply, black and the skin texture should be bumpy.
Pro tip: If your avocados are too firm, place them in a brown paper bag (alone or with a banana) to speed up the ripening process.
