My favorite Easter candy is always chocolate, and what better way to enjoy Easter chocolate than with my other favorite thing–cheese! While it’s not as classic as cheese and wine pairings, cheese and chocolate pairings can be just as delicious. So I thought, why can’t you pair cheese with Easter chocolate and Easter Candy? Well you can, and I did!
Yes, it’s a little unhinged, but it’s a super fun way to enjoy your favorite festive treats. Invite friends over and make a night of it! Serve a little wine (paired, obviously!) or your favorite mocktails, and rank them from good to best. Or set out some extra candies and have guests dream up their own pairings…. just be sure to share these rules of thumb:
- Like pairs with like: i.e. a caramel candy will pair well with a cheese that has notes of caramel, like an aged gouda.
- On the other side of the coin, use opposing flavors to complement each other: i.e. a mild cheese will tone down a super sweet and/or tart candy
- Keep the textures interesting: i.e. crunchy candy with super smooth, creamy cheese

The Best Easter Candy & Cheese Pairings
Whether you’re hosting an adult soiree or planning to have some good old-fashioned family fun, these pairings are a ton of fun. Get kiddos involved with picking the candy to pair with cheeses! Most of these cheeses and candies are beloved, but if one (or none!) of these specific flavors are their (or your) cup of tea, use this post as a guide to help you make your own pairings. Amp up the fun with a rating system!
- PEEPS + BURRATA: The creaminess and mild flavor of the burrata tones down the somewhat overpowering sweetness in the marshmallow Peeps. It has a Creamsicle-like flavor!
- CADBURY CRÈME EGG + AGED GOUDA: The sweet caramel flavor in the Crème Egg filling perfectly complements the more savory caramel notes of aged gouda. Plus the crunchy crystals in aged cheese offer a nice texture contrast to the super silky creme egg filling.
- WHOPPER ROBBIN EGGS + HUMBOLDT FOG: The sweet, toasty malt flavor in Whoppers (plus the sweet candy coating) complements the tangy, savory flavor of Cypress Grove’s Humboldt Fog. I think my favorite part of this pairing though, is the texture: the ultra crunchy, airy texture of the Robin Eggs beautifully offsets the gooey, fudgy texture of the cheese.
- REESE’S EGGS + AGED CHEDDAR: The nutty flavor of aged cheddar pairs perfectly with the peanut butter filling in Reese’s Eggs. Plus the creamy sweetness of milk chocolate works well with the savory sharpness of the cheddar. (You can even make copycat Reese’s Eggs for a slightly “healthier” pairing option)
- JELLY BEANS + BRIE: Brie and fruit are a match made in heaven, so it’s not a shock that fruit-flavored jelly beans taste great with brie. The mild flavor of the cheese tones down the sweet, tartness in the jelly beans while still working well with the fruit essences. Plus, I love the difference in texture.
- Arrange all the pairings on a festive Easter platter.

Easter Candy: Where To Find it?
To find all of the classics from your childhood, the easiest place to start is at your local supermarket, pharmacy (like CVS or Walgreens), Target, Costco, or Walmart. Stop by the seasonal aisle and stock up on all that nostalgia!
Here are some more of my favorites:
- Cadbury Caramel Eggs (paired with aged gouda)
- Cadbury Mini Eggs Royal Dark (paired with triple cream)
- KitKat Bunnies (paired with sharp cheddar)
- Reese’s Pieces Eggs (paired with aged cheddar)
- Hershey’s Cookies & Creme Eggs (paired with goat cheese)
- Starburst Jelly Beans (paired with brie or burrata)
Costco Easter Candy
Costco is a great place to get Easter candy in bulk. Here are a few of my favorites with prices seen in the background of each photo.
How To Repurpose Extra Easter Candy & Cheese
Since you’ll be doing a lot of mixing, matching, and tasting, you’ll probably have some leftover cheeses and candies! Here are some creative ideas for how to enjoy them:
- Make a candy board
- Make fancy grilled cheese
- Whip up homemade mac & cheese
- Melt down the chocolate into an Easter fondue (this will only work with non-coated chocolates! Also avoid filled chocolates unless the filling is meltable/mixable, like peanut butter and caramel.)
- Decorate cupcakes with jelly beans
- Make sundaes with Easter-iffic toppings
- Toast any leftover peeps to make colorful S’mores (Pro tip: Reese’s Eggs are even better than a classic chocolate bar!)
Easter Candy, Cheese & Wine Pairings
When pairing wine with candy, there’s one main thing to keep in mind that’s a little different than your average pairing rules: Unlike most sweets and cheese, candy tends to be on the sweeter, less complex end of the flavor spectrum. So while we would normally pair something sweet with a drier wine, the intense sugar in candy can make dry wines taste bitter. Best to avoid super tannic wines!
Here are some ideas to serve alongside your candy pairings, but the bottom line is that there really is no wrong pairing as long as you enjoy it. If you’re looking for an overall crowd-pleaser, I find that a mild sparkling white wine is the most universally suited to Easter candy.
- Peeps + burrata → sparkling white wine
- Cadbury creme egg + aged gouda → Chardonnay or Prosecco
- Whoppers Robin Eggs Minis + Humboldt Fog → Gamay or Syrah
- Reese’s Eggs + aged cheddar → Cabernet Sauvignon or Beaujolais
- Jelly beans + brie → Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling
